How to make a slot machine arpeggio in Ableton
This is a quick exercise to practice sound design using three basic ingredients: an old-school type synth, a delay and an arpeggiator.
This is a quick exercise to practice sound design using three basic ingredients: an old-school type synth, a delay and an arpeggiator.
- Create a midi track and add a major chord with at least 8 notes, in my example i added two full octaves.
For the example I used an old-school synth simulator, but you should experiment with what you have in your DAW.
- Arpeggiator: Use the down style. Adjust the rate and gate to your taste.
- Synth: Choose the square wave, and keep a short Decay and Sustain and Release.
- Delay: I think this is where the magic happens. You can see the setting in the screenshot.
